Chute Pavilion & Recreation Ground

The Village of Sherborne St John is lucky enough to have a great Pavilion and recreation ground available to all on the outskirts of the Village on Vyne Road.  In the past year the Parish Council has embarked on an extensive  renovation project  - redecoration, new storage facilities and re-fenced and resurfaced tennis courts -  to enhance and upgrade the facilities. They were helped by receiving grant funding towards the work from Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council, Hampshire Playing Fields Association, the Big Lottery fund and their, then, County Councillor Keith Chapman.

Built, using grant funding nearly 20 years ago,  the recently refurbished Pavilion is a great venue for many indoor sports activities and for hire for weddings, parties and children’s events especially during the holiday periods.  At present it is used by various sports clubs,  Judo, indoor bowls, triathlon training , football and even as a practise studio by a local band, with a small nursery school being held during the day time.

But there is always room for more groups to regularly use the Pavilion facilities – a very large reception room with tables & chairs, a kitchen area, changing rooms and toilets.  So if you are interested in finding out about hiring the Pavilion or want to know more about the groups already using it please contact the Parish Clerk

The large recreation grounds are also excellent and used extensively by local people. There is a children’s play area, 2 newly refurbished tennis courts, a basketball net and 2 football pitches. The Parish Council is continuing to investigate installing other facilities finances permitting. As with the Pavilion there are very active football and tennis clubs using the facilities throughout the year and the very active and popular Judo club on Friday evenings, so if you want to know more please contact the Parish Clerk.

The Parish Council are happy that so many people use the area to walk their dogs – as long as they clear up after them! – picnic  and play outdoor games with their children.

Our Local Primary School also holds its Annual Sports Day there.

If you want any further information about the facilities available or want to see about starting a new club using the Pavilion facilities or just book the Pavilion for a child’s party or family get together or a wedding reception please get in touch with the Parish Clerk who will be more than happy to help
